Hello, Nicole here, your friendly neighborhood organizing and decluttering pro. I’m so excited to be sharing some tips with you on how to set yourself up for the best year of your life so far by getting organized and decluttering your space.
As women, we often struggle with clutter and disorganization. Our lives are so busy juggling work, family, friends, and everything in between. It’s easy for messes to pile up and get out of control before we even realize it. But living in a cluttered and chaotic space actually holds us back from living our best lives.
When our physical space is cluttered, our mental space becomes cluttered too. We become overwhelmed, stressed out, and unable to focus on what really matters.
The good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way! With some focused effort over the next couple of months, you can transform your home into a peaceful, clutter-free oasis that will support you in having the most productive, joyful year yet.

Here are my TOP TIPS for using organization and decluttering to set yourself up for an amazing year:
Make Decluttering a Priority
First, make decluttering a priority over the holidays. When life gets extra busy, decluttering often falls by the wayside. But the holidays are actually the perfect time to declutter. With a little dedicated focus, you can make serious progress. Set aside time each week – even if just an hour or two – to sort through portions of your home. Start with high traffic areas like entryways, kitchens, closets and office spaces. Be ruthless in deciding what to toss or donate. Ask yourself, “Do I really need or love this item?” If not, it’s clutter. Out it goes!
Tackle Paperwork and Digital Files
Next up, tackle paperwork and digital files. These areas tend to be major pain points. Going through and purging old paperwork, documents and computer files clears out mental clutter. Use simple organizing systems like trays, folders and baskets to corral what you do need to keep. And don’t forget email! Unsubscribe from anything you don’t absolutely need in your inbox. It feels so freeing to have a clear desktop, filing system and email.
Put Clutter Magnets in their Place
Now, put clutter magnets in their place. You know those spots in your home that inevitably turn into piles – counters, tables, benches, etc? Get ahead of the game by designating homes for the stuff that lands there. For example, give kitchen gadgets and mail a dedicated bin or tray. Install hooks or baskets for keys, bags and coats near your entry. Once everything has an organized home, maintaining the system is a breeze.
Develop Helpful Habits
With the new year, develop helpful habits. Regular maintenance prevents clutter from building up again. Do quick 5 or 10 minute tidy ups of high traffic areas each night before bed or morning before you start your day. Process mail and paperwork as it comes in instead of letting it pile up. Stay on top of dishes, laundry and regular cleaning. And keep surfaces cleared off as much as possible – they aren’t storage spaces!
Embrace the Mindset that Less is More
Finally, embrace the mindset that less is more. Be selective about what you allow into your home going forward. Avoid accumulating stuff just for the sake of it or out of guilt. Focus on only owning items you truly treasure, are useful or bring you joy. When something new comes in, something old gets donated. Your home will stay much tidier when you’re not overflowing with excess stuff!
I hope these tips help you tackle clutter and create a fresh start this year!
When your physical environment feels calm and organized, it clears the way for you to focus your mental energy on what matters most. You’ve got this! Wishing you a very happy new year full of simplicity, productivity and peace! Let me know how it goes or if you have any other organizing questions!
